Colonial Story

John Wilton- Lumberjack

The day, or should I say week, began like any other. Hi, I’m John Wilton, the lumberjack for the town of Freedomville, Maryland. Anyway, I was chopping down wood to bring to the town carpenter Robert Alfred Che’burg and his wife, who is usually home, wasn’t there. I then went home to find her stealing food out of my cellar. I then reported her to the town constable, who had her arrested and hung. The next day I was chopping down wood when a man named Joseph Revere came running down the road shouting, “The Indians are Coming!! The Indians are Coming!!” All the women screamed and ran for their houses while the men grabbed their weapons and, led by the mayor Robert Newton Jr., charged at the Indian chief. The chief then pulled out his bow and arrow and pointed it right at the mayor’s chest. Everyone came to a screeching halt so that the arrow barely poked the mayor. “We want our land back.” said the chief “Now.” The mayor was about to argue when the chief began to pull back his arrow. “Okey-dokey!” said the mayor in an obviously fake happy tone of voice. “Pack your bags everyone, we’re going home.” Everyone groaned, the trip here had been bad enough, no one wanted to go back. Since the ship had been damaged, I went off to chop down wood to repair it. “ TIMBER!!!” I shouted as the first tree came down. It was very big and very heavy, so it brought up a shower of mud and dirt when it landed. I then noticed that there was a giant diamond sticking out of the dirt. The tree must have pushed it up. I then got an idea. I walked back to town with the diamond and said to the Indians, “We will trade you our land, for this!” I said as I lifted up the diamond. The Indians just stood there a minute, babbling like idiots until the chief said, “We’ll take it!” The next thing I knew, they were gone. I was then praised as a hero and we all lived happily ever after.
