Solomon McHenry

Ship Captain

I grew up in London, England as a fisherman. The king of England made all the people go to the Church of England. When George Calvert got in trouble I heard we could go to Maryland. I was happy to move. When we got on the boat, I saw my brother and his family too. When we were sailing, we were scared because we thought pirates would attack us. When we got there, Indians were living there. So we traded cloth and tools for their land. We sold tobacco and shipped it to the merchants in England. Most of the time I am away for my house so my wife takes care of my house. My plantation is called Big Blue. I moved a lot because there was no fish. The Indians were mad because there were less trees which led to fewer animals. There was money to be made by sailing in the water, so I moved  towards the sea.
